Although Newcastle's two main Academy sides continue to top their respective tables, once again the young Magpies found themselves dumped out of the FA Youth Cup at any early stage.
Last year we came to grief in a replay at Palace, but this season we fell at the first hurdle, 2-1 to a hard-working but unremarkable Norwich City side.
An enthusiastic crowd at Carrow Road greeted the victory in a way that
suggested we were a sizeable scalp.
Biggest disappointment of the night was the lack of an offensive threat from our much-vaunted strikers, Richard Offiong and Michael Chopra and it was left to another young striker, Lewis Guy to hit our injury time consolation.
The junior sides now have one game left before their festive break when the mackems visit on Saturday. After a pair of 2-0 wins on Wearside our lads will look to round off the first part of their season in style. NUFC.com will of course carry full details of the games.
