We Said

Tommy Craig commented:

"We played well for most of the game. Up to the 75th minute we were in control. There were a lot of good things in the game but we didn't take our chances.

"When you don't finish your chances the opposition pop up with a goal, which is what happened to us. From being comfortable for well over an hour, we lost three goals in six minutes. It was a strange game, in that we had dominated for 70 minutes."

Waffle

A second successive Northumberland Senior Cup exit at the hands of the Terriers for Tommy Craig and Co. thanks to three inspired substitutions by Bedlington and six manic minutes at Welfare Park on Tuesday.

After carving out the bulk of the chances in the contest, Newcastle went ahead on the hour when Carl Finnigan accurately headed home a Cave centre from the left.

And that was the way things stayed until the 79th minute, when substitute Anthony Chapman rifled the ball home from outside the area to level the scores, having been on the field for barely seven minutes.

A draw then would have sent the tie to extra time, but four minutes later the home side grabbed the lead when the ball was turned across goal and half-time substitute Robbie Cockburn swept home from close range.

Terriers appeared to have sewn up the tie on 85 minutes, when their third substitute of the evening Kevin Walton stretched out a leg to glance home a low cross from the right from close range.

The Magpies did finish the scoring in added time, when our own sub Guy Bates was on hand to net from point blank range after a quick Cave free-kick was headed on towards the far post.

However, referee Laws blew within seconds to extend Bedlington's unbeaten run to 12 games and maintain their record of not having lost at home since last April.
