We Said

Tommy Craig commented:

"It did not go for us.

"We were second best in every department. We lost 50-50 balls and our passing was poor. We made a good Manchester United side look even better than they were. We did not offer any real resistance.

"It is difficult to put my finger on it. It is very unlike us, particularly in front of our own fans. I am not saying we did not try but when it came to the important challenges we were found wanting.

"They are a talented side and we have had very good games against them in recent years. But when we have had the better of them it has been about winning the battle before winning the game. We are still searching for our true form.

"We will sit down Wednesday and look at how many times we gave the ball away to Manchester United."

Waffle

A thoroughly depressing night at Kingston Park saw Tommy Craig's side suffer a 3-0 defeat with 'keeper Tony Caig having a personal nightmare.

The visitors took the lead in the 16th minute when a run down the left was left unchecked and from the cross David Jones certainly wasn't monkeying around, as he shot past a flat-footed Caig.

It was 2-0 just after the half hour when Colin Heath hit a soft shot that Caig failed to stop as the rain came down.

And to add to our misery, Kris Gate limped off a minute before the break and was replaced by Liam Atkin - who in turn was injured after the break and had to be subbed himself.

The misery was complete after 61 minutes when Rossi walked the ball in with Caig again at fault.

We barely mustered a shot on target over the whole game and were comprehensively outplayed by a more organised, talented, committed and professional side, of which all but Caig are products of our Academy - the most depressing aspect of all.
