We Said

Lee Clark commented:

"I'm absolutely delighted for Jonny because he's had a great game and has capped it off with a goal on his 18th birthday

"I couldn't have asked for any more from the lads. They gave the right commitment and effort and competed well against a big team.

"All credit to Godsmark , he used his pace and worried Bolton, and I am delighted with the performance. Playing at St James' Park left them undaunted, they raised their game and were up for it.

I'm just delighted, and long may it continue."

An excellent victory for Lee Clark's side against last season's Premier Reserve League North Champions at St. James' Park on Monday evening.

After a goalless first half, Newcastle took the lead three minutes into the second period through James Troisi, who got on the end of birthday boy Jonny Godsmark's low cross.

Darren Lough then doubled our lead in the 68th minute with his first goal at this level, firing home from outside the Bolton box.

And deep into injury time Godsmark converted from the spot to mark his 18th birthday, after he had been fouled by Trotters 'keeper Al Habsi, who was red-carded.
