We Said

Coach Adam Sadler commented:

"Fraser was unbelievable tonight - he has pulled off at least ten outstanding saves and I don't know how he has made those two close range stops in the second-half.

"Fraser is thought of as the club's most improved player over the past 18 months and it's easy to see why.

"He is well on his way to becoming a top keeper and, most importantly, he has a terrific attitude to hard work.

"He can achieve whatever he wants to in the game and we're lucky to have such a fantastic talent."

The Reserves gained a creditable scoreless draw against the league leaders at SJP on Monday night, with Magpies goalkeeper Fraser Forster making a number of fine saves to deny the Reds.

Shola Ameobi, Andy Carroll and Kazenga LuaLua were all absent from the side after featuring in last week's home draw with Manchester City, leaving David Edgar as the sole player with first team experience.

Liverpool's side had a similar makeup, featuring young recruits from France, Hungary, Paraguay, Argentina, Spain and the Netherlands.

After an early headed chance from United striker Ryan Donaldson, the visitors carved out the better chances but failed to find a way through our defence, with recent recruit Tamas Kadar again catching the eye.

Chances were few and far between at the other end with Baheng screwing his shot just wide from the edge of the box two minutes before half time.

And the French youngster also got a rare sight of goal on 54 minutes, only to see his effort deflected wide.

The woodwork came to Forster's rescue when Krisztian Nemeth contrived to hit the cross from six yards on 57 minutes after his initial shot had been saved.

However neither side were able to find the breakthrough on a chilly Tyneside evening as Liverpool's six game winning run came to an end.
