With no competitive reserve fixture this week, Newcastle's second string played a behind closed doors friendly at the Minstermen's training ground (City's first XI had been in League Two home action the previous evening).

However an under-par display saw them deservedly beaten by a side including a number of first teamers. City took an early lead when midfielder Daniel Kearns (on trial from Peterborough) swung in a corner from which Jamie Reed beat Jak Alnwick.

Veteran defender and PFA Chairman Clarke Carlisle then lost possession and Brad Inman played in Adam Campbell to level the game before half time.

York went ahead on 72 minutes when a Kearns shot was blocked and Reed curled an effort home for his second of the game. And the League Two side then made sure of the win in the closing stages when former Norwich City striker Oli Johnson supplied a close range finish.
