"It's very disappointing to lose against a non-league team as
professional players - very, very disappointing. But basically, I said to them
it's because they didn't do the real nitty gritty basics right, which is head
the ball, get onto flick-ons and anticipate second balls. They were better than
us at that on a pitch that was worse than our players have ever played on.
"You're going to struggle if you're not prepared to do those basic things,
which is chase things, pressure people; the basics of the game that they were
better than us at.
"Having said that, we had a lot of chances and in the first half we should
have scored more than one. But in the second half, their second goal was
because we didn't have people running with people, staying with people - the
basics. If you can't do that, you'll never win a game.
"We assured them that in the second half - because I've seen Bedlington
here - down that hill they'll launch the ball behind you and make it hard. But
we didn't put enough pressure on them, we didn't stay with people and then when
they're in the lead, on that pitch it's very hard to grab it back.
"Then the third one was a set play where somebody didn't stay with their
man and he gets a free header. It's just not good enough and he won't progress
if he's not prepared to do that.
"I thought Jak was great in goal. Remie (Streete) in his first game
in a long time was very good, Lubo (Satka) who's been out for a while
played well and I thought Adam (Campbell) was a threat.
Basically the young ones were the better players."

Newcastle suffered a second embarrassing cup exit in four days when they
deservedly lost to their Northern League hosts at Welfare Park on Tuesday,
despite naming five players with senior team experience in their starting XI.
And there's a certain irony in the fact that many of the home players were on
United's books as youngsters - and on the receiving end of similar defeats by
Bedlington here a decade or so ago, when the likes of John Milner, Willie Moat
and Robbie Cockburn were in their pomp.
Things looked to be going according to plan for the black and whites though,
when Shane Ferguson cracked home a 15th minute free kick from the edge of the
box after Marcus Maddison was impeded.
That inspired the Terriers into greater efforts and they took their chance to
level with a set piece of their own at the end of the first half, Mark Convery
rifling a free kick home from similar distance to Fergie's effort.
After the break, the Terriers showed far more fighting spirit, discipline and
application than their supposed superiors, ex-Magpie reserve Mark Doninger put
them ahead with a fine long distance effort that caught Jak Alnwick napping.
Defender Richard Pell then headed home a corner on 74 minutes to put Bedlington
3-1 up and although substitute JJ Hooper shot home soon after, the non-leaguers
held on to claim the victory with something to spare.
Quite simply, our lot just didn't fancy this and struggled to play any sort of
effective game on a surface that was far from ideal and cut up, but was
perfectly playable.
Nile Ranger was shackled by a defence including ex-SJP trio Chris Carr, Craig
Baxter and Phil Cave, while Marcus Maddison squandered most of his possession
and Adam Campbell made little impact from a deep lying role.
However the youngster did come desperately closing to forcing extra time when
his shot was beaten away by Terriers custodian Jack Norton in the 90th minute.
The tie was ultimately lost in midfield, Mehdi Abeid unable to make any headway
and reduced to trying ludicrous back heels rather than trying to play football
properly. Romain Amalfitano meanwhile was utterly anonymous. These lot are
our future, apparently. Be very worried.
This season's Senior Cup competition is now an all Northern League affair, with
the Terriers joining North Shields, Ashington and Whitley Bay in the
semi-finals.
