Laurent Robert Interview 53

Taken from his own official (French Language) website 29.03.02

Newcastle crushed Everton this afternoon 6 goals to 2. The team haven't been on top form of late, but you came back well.

We were playing well that was clear to see. Personally, I didn't manage to score, and it was difficult to get the play going on the left. The only times I was on the ball, I managed to get decisive passes out of them. However I didn't keep my place on the field. In the 74th minute, Bobby Robson replaced me with Olivier Bernard.

Why were you substituted?

I had a scan yesterday which revealed that I'd torn a muscle on the side of my coccyx. I could have stayed on, but the boss wanted to relieve me of the discomfort. As we're playing on Tuesday, it was best not to force it.

How did you deliver the three decisive passes that you made?

We were trailing 1-0 and I made the first decisive pass to get the equaliser from a throw in which Shearer get on the end of to put the ball in the back of the net. For the second goal, I went passed a couple of defenders and crossed the ball to the near post, which Cort side footed it in. The last one came from a corner which O'Brien managed to score from.

When Everton equalised and with two goals each, how did the team react?

We didn't really play too well in the first half. We threw everything forward. We had a discussion at half time to get things sorted out. We needed to play football and to stop playing the long ball. We came out a different team in the second half, which translated into four extra goals scored.

With this victory, you put extra pressure on the three teams above you.

Certainly, especially as we have a game in hand, We must continue in the same way and go to Aston Villa on Tuesday and get the three points.

Do you think you'll play on Tuesday?

I should do, I have time to recuperate. Have a good weekend.
