United's second string ended their four game winless run behind closed doors at Darsley Park on Friday afternoon in a rearranged U21 Premier League fixture.

Appearing at right back, Dan Barlaser gave United the lead in the 24th minute with his first goal of the season, evading Wolves 'keeper, Jon Flatt before firing home.

Coached by former Magpie Scott Sellars, Wolves looked to have salvaged a point when Eusebio Bancessi shot home with eight minutes remaining to make it 1-1.

However Adam Laidler's cross led to the winner in the 86th minute, his effort striking Flatt and then defender, Anthony Breslin, on the line to register an own goal.

Head Coach Steve McClaren was in attendance as winger Sylvain Marveaux made a third appearance at this level in a continued bid to get match fit.
