Newcastle's reserve side got a good pasting at a sunny Villa Park on Monday afternoon as Libor Kozak netted a hat-trick for the Villans.

It was 0-3 at the break, then the home side were reduced to ten men but Kozak still went on to complete his treble with United wasting numerous chances to get back into the contest.

The scoreline will bemuse Peter Beardsley who saw his side control large parts of the game but Sammy Ameobi and Haris Vuckic failed to convert some good chances while Villa took theirs.

There was a sign of things to come in the fourth minute when Curtis Good gave away possession and Kozak curled an effort that was tipped wide by Nathan Harker.

The first goal came in the 24th minute when the ball broke for Callum O'Hare and he fed Johan Abdoul who curled the ball past Harker from outside the box.

The second was almost identical and followed just three minutes later but another poor pass was intercepted and Kozak did the same as Abdoul from a similar distance.

Villa got their third a minute before the break with O'Hare finding Kozak in the box and the Czech striker turned and hit a low dribbler that evaded Harker.

Callum Roberts never recovered from being injured off the ball and was replaced after the break by Luke Charman and United started the second period brightly.

Vuckic found space down the left but shot narrowly wide and then Jed Steer blocked a Vuckic shot with his foot as United looked to get back into the game.

Abdoul was booked twice for soft fouls and was shown a red card in the 69th minute by referee Anthony Serrano but despite being a man short, Villa increased their lead in the 78th minute with Kozak striding clear and finishing comfortably past Harker.

Magpies substitute Jamie Holmes looked a certain scorer in the last minute but having rounded the 'keeper he tripped over the ball and it bobbled harmlessly wide.

A fitting end to a hapless afternoon for the Magpies. At least the weather was decent....
