United's second string returned empty-handed from the Black Country on Friday, going down to a second half strike at Albion's training ground.

Baggies midfielder Tyrese Dyce arrived from the bench just after the hour and his crisp shot from inside the box beat visiting goalkeeper Will Brown on 79 minutes.

Clad in their yellow change kit, Chris Hogg's Magpies were forced into an early change when Stan Flaherty made way for debutant Florent Indalecio.

With the game scoreless after the break, visiting striker Yannick Toure sent the ball goalwards from close range, only to be denied by home custodian Ted Cann.

Having played 45 minutes of Monday's U23 win over Fulham, Matty Longstaff continued his comeback from injury with a full 90 minute shift.
