Laurent Robert Interview 12

Taken from his own official (French Language) website 15.10.01

The team put in a superb performance on Saturday beating Bolton 4 - 0. In your opinion, was it the best match Newcastle have played so far this season?

No, it wasn't the best, but all the same it was a very good game on our part. All that's important is that we took all 3 points. and we stay within touching distance of the teams above us at the top of the league. We are only 4 points behind Leeds and 3 behind Arsenal and Manchester, in that respect its a very good thing.

Newcastle have managed to keep a clean sheet for the third consecutive time, has the arrival of Sylvain Distin stabilized your defence? (obviously the interviewer thinks wrongly that Distin is playing in the first team)

I don't know. It's true Sylvain contributes enormously with his strength, maybe its a combination of things which has stoppd us from conceding goals, he's putting pressure on the other defenders with some good performances, as a result everyone seems more concentrated.

You scored again with a free kick, can you take us through it?

It was the same as against Manchester United, but on the other side of the keeper, I curled it nicely with enough power and I hit the back of the net.

How did you perform in the match as a whole?

Very good, I truly played the full 90 minutes and I was elected man of the match. I made a decisive pass to Shearer, and made various other good passes, which should have ended up in the back of the net, but they were unable to convert the chances, the important thing is we took back the three points with us.

Yesterday evening you were present at the PSG-Lyon game, what did you make of the Parisiens?

They played well but were facing a well orgaised Lyon team, for me a draw was a fair result.

Did you have the chance to speak to them?

I saw a few players, the president etc, it went well, and it was very pleasant to see them all again.

When do you return to training again with Newcastle?

Actually, I'm still in Paris, I learnt that my Grandfather had passed away this morning, and I have to take a flight out to the reunion Island this evening at short notice. I will join up with my familly to help in the funeral arrangements. I anticipate to be back at Newcastle on Thursday, I must leave you now, talk to you soon.
