"I enjoyed it, its two quality
games we've had in pre-season now (following a 0-1 defeat at Motherwell)
and that's going to bring us on leaps and bounds.
"So, yeah, two 45's again, so we'll
start building up to 60s and 75s and 90s for the remaining games that we've got.
So everybody's working exceptionally hard, good effort today against
predominantly Premier League players, so it's always going to be a test, but for
the most part we equipped ourselves reasonably well.
"A few mistakes, some self-inflicted,
but that's early season, that can happen, but overall pleased with what we're
producing.
"We knew we had to try and get close to
good quality players, if you don't then they can hurt you, but once again we
didn't go strong in the first team and then weaker in the second. We tried to
balance it out and make sure that we were competitive in both halves, which I
felt we were. So overall, yeah, very pleasing.
"We thank Newcastle obviously for
allowing us to take the game. It'll be invaluable, lots of money in the bank,
it's good."
Dan Burn, Martin
Dubravka, Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes, Alexander Isak, Tino Livramento
and Sandro Tonali weren't present after playing internationally
post-season.
New boy Anthony Elanga watched from the sidelines while Lewis Hall
continues his rehabilitation following injury. Emil Krafth
and Odysseas Vlachodimos didn't feature.
Six players with no competitive senior pitch time at the club featured;
goalkeeper John Ruddy making his second appearance a year after his debut
in a kickabout, having agreed a further 12 month contract at Gallowgate -
although that is yet to be formally announced.
Full backs Harrison Ashby and Leo Shahar plus midfield duo Travis
Hernes and Joe White all appeared as they had done during the 2024/25
pre-season programme. Shahar and Hernes then returned to the U21s while the
others departed on loan - Hernes later following them.
18 year-old centre forward Sean Neave was an unused substitute in the the
Premier League and FA Cup last season, making his senior debut for Newcastle
today.

The Magpies began their pre-season
campaign with an unadvertised friendly, defeating
National League side Carlisle United at a sun-drenched Darsley Park on Saturday.
The hosts led at half time thanks to Sean Longstaff's 25th minute strike
from distance, making eleven changes and pulling further ahead through
Joelinton (65), Jacob Murphy (75) and Ben Parkinson (85).
Longstaff's participation had seemed unlikely a week earlier as Leeds
United submitted multiple bids for him, but a failure to match the
rumoured £15m asking price left the player available for selection with
less than 12 months remaining on his contract.
Joelinton meanwhile marked his return to fitness with a goal, having
missed the final five games of last season with a knee problem that he
claims to have fully overcome after a period of rest.
Jacob Murphy's liking for a friendly goal continued - having knocked in
five ahead of last season - while Ben Parkinson claimed a first senior
strike during the twelfth senior friendly game he's participated in since
July 2023.
There were no familiar faces in the Cumbrian squad: Newcastle reserve
defender Charlie McArthur returning from a loan spell at Carlisle last
season, Paul Dummett
exiting Brunton Park in the summer and fellow SJP old boy Glyn Hodges
standing down as assistant to Mark Hughes in recent days.
Goalkeeper Jude Smith meanwhile joined Carlisle a year ago following his
release by the Magpies, but was absent here due to injury.
Howe's squad now travel to Austria for a five day training camp in the
Tyrol village of Seefeld. This is the third time United have included
Austria in their pre-season schedule, Sam Allardyce leading a training
camp in 2007 at Stegersbach and Howe overseeing a stint at Saalfelden
three years ago.
