52 secs Anthony
Elanga's shot was blocked by Jordan Pickford at the expense of a corner.
Lewis Miley's right footed inswinger at the South End of the stadium reached Malick Thiaw,
between James Tarkowski and Michael Keane towards the near post. He arrowed
in a downward header. 1-0

25 mins
Elanga ran down the right and
sent over a low cross that rebounded off an opponent and fell to Tino
Livramento. Next in possession was Harvey Barnes, whose attempt to finding
Nick Woltemade was also cleared and reach Livramento, who was now in a more
central position in the area.
His first-time shot was heading wide before Dan Burn stuck out a foot on the
edge of the six yard box and pinged the ball backwards to the centre. That
sat up nicely in front of Lewis Miley, who sent a left-footed half
volley goalwards from just inside the area that Jordan Pickford made a hash
of and slapped betwen his own legs and into the goal.
2-0

45 mins Livramento
initiated another attack down the United right, clipping a tempting centre
over halfway that Elanga ran on to. Evading Tim Iroegbunam, the winger
steered a pass infield to the unmarked Nick Woltemade as Vitalii
Mykolenko seemed to hesitate.
Spurning the chance to shoot immediately, United's German forward
simply lifted the ball back over the head of the stranded Pickford and into
the net, James Garner tracking back in vain.
3-0

Half time: Toffees 0 Magpies 3

58 mins Miley's tempting deep centre from the left was knocked down
Burn on the six yard line to Woltemade, whose close control set up a
shooting chance that Pickford met with a great block.
Barnes picked up the loose ball on the left hand byline and fed it back to
Hall, whose delivery was even more delicious than Miley's. Dropping in about
the same place beyond the far post, it was met by Malick Thiaw
with another precise header. The scenes that followed were biblical. 4-0

69 mins Tarkowski pumped a pass from the halfway line into the path
of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, whose half-turn as the ball dropped took
him away from Thiaw in the box. The Toffee beat Ramsdale with a first-time
effort from inside the six yard box with Livramento unable to intervene. 4-1

Boyhood Toffees fan Eddie
Howe said:
"It was a massive
win for us. Our first away win of the season, we needed it, we've
been chasing it and it has been elusive so far, but it was a big
moment today.
"It was a really good performance as well from the players. We
looked solid, we looked physically really good ,which was a tough
test after Marseille, coming back, having to refocus on the Premier
League.
"I was really pleased for the squad today: it was a
squad victory. We made changes because I didn’t want fatigue on the pitch.
After the Brentford and West Ham games, I felt we were tired and lethargic.
"We have to trust the squad and they repaid that faith. The players who came
in were excellent. The players who remained from the previous games did well
too. We had athleticism and pace in the right areas of the pitch.
"That (away win) was really important (for
the fans) as we haven’t had that feeling enough or at all.
“Very pleased today that we were able to put that right
and give them that winning feeling to go back to Newcastle with. I’m just
pleased I don’t have to answer the dreaded questions on it (the winless
away run).
“We have a lot of work to do to say we have solved some of the issues we
have had, but it is a big moment for us. A step forward.
"Time will tell (if this is a turning point) I’m not going to make
any big statements, there is a long way to go."
On the goals:
"Big goals, the first one is a great ball from Lewis Miley, who I thought
played really well today, and he (Malick Thiaw) got his head to it,
and the second one is a great ball from Lewis Hall.
"So goals from different sources, two set plays, but I thought we looked a
goal threat all day. Nick (Woltemade) took his goal well, which was
good for him to be back on the scoresheet, and we could have got more."
On whether Nick Pope would have started if fit:
"Good try! That is something for me to know.
"We are disappointed to lose him. We can't afford to lose any player. He
suffered an injury just towards the end of training. I did not name the team
until yesterday.
"So we were just training as normal, he was wrong-footed on a shot and felt
something in his groin, more after training than in that moment, and we hope
he is not out for long.
"We need him back. He will have a scan in the next few days to find the
damage."
On Aaron Ramsdale:
"(I was) delighted with Aaron Ramsdale today: I
thought he came and did really well. Nick and
Aaron are very different goalkeepers with very different strengths: they’re
both very effective.
“I think Aaron showed his qualities with the ball at
his feet today, he distributed the ball very well.
"He wasn’t overly worked necessarily in terms of shots, but what he did have
to handle, I thought he did well. I didn’t think he could do much for the
goal. I think it’s a good day for him and a good day for the team in
general.”
On Sven Botman:
“Sven is going to see a specialist this week (about
his back problem). Fingers crossed, he’s not out for too long. Any
absence of a player with Sven’s qualities, especially with the injuries that
he has had, is a blow for us. So, fingers crossed."
David Moyes said:
"They were much better than us. They played better
and were much more physical, much more experienced than we are. You can see that
Newcastle are learning from their Champions League games.
"Newcastle are maybe the most powerful team in the
Premier League. Maybe it's Arsenal, but Newcastle are big, physical, so hard
to play against. We couldn't stop them.
"We're not at Newcastle's level. They would have had to
have had probably an off night and we'd probably had to have a really good
night to get a result.
"We were beaten by a far better team, a far more
experienced looking team and much more powerful team than we were. It
brought us back down to earth a bit after the result (a 1-0 win away at
Manchester United) we had on Monday.
“We gave away (from) a corner, you can
lose (from) a corner, that can happen to most teams. But the second
and third goals were really poor goals for us to give away.
“We could have dealt with them a lot better. We
actually played pretty well with the ball. For long periods we were probably
the better team with the ball, no doubt about that.
"The bigger thing was how
quick they broke, how fast they broke. Every time we sort of risked the ball
or gave the ball away, they were quick to try and get on us and they got
onto our back line too quick and it caused us problems. We couldn't stop it."

Newcastle achieved their first Premier League away victory at the tenth
attempt, since a
3-0 win at Leicester City last April. Like today, they also scored
three first half goals that day.
That success arrived in their seventh PL away game: United
went longer during 1999/00 (nine games), 2008/09 (nine games), 2012/13 (12
games) and 2021/22 (10 games).
Malick Thiaw is the 172nd of Newcastle's 274 PL players to have
scored. He's the
third German international to net for the Magpies in the PL,
after Dietmar Hamann and Nick Woltemade.
Nick Woltemade made it five PL goals for the season and seven
in league and cup, drawing level with Harvey Barnes as top scorer in
all competitions.
Lewis Miley scored his third PL goal for the club, following
one at home to Fulham in December 2023 and at home to Nottingham
Forest in February 2025. With his other strike coming against
Bromley in the FA Cup at SJP, today's was his first in an away game.
(Brother Jamie picked the same day to score his first of the season for
Hartlepool United).

There was a first competitive success for the green change strip
at the fifth attempt, following draws at Aston Villa and Bournemouth
then losses at Brighton and West Ham.
Eddie Howe's side have now won back to back PL fixtures for the
first time this
season. The last time they took six points out of six was from successive
home wins over Manchester United and Crystal Palace last April.
The Hill
Dickinson Stadium became the 61st different venue to have
hosted a Premier League fixture involving United, the Magpies making
a winning debut there as they did on their maiden visits to Boro,
Derby County, Coventry City, Cardiff City, West Ham and Spurs in the
Premier League era.
This was the seventh PL game at the venue, Newcastle becoming the second
visiting side to win there after Spurs, who posted a 3-0 success.

A lightning start to their debut at
Hill Dickinson Stadium
on Saturday night set
Newcastle en route to their first Premier League win away from
Tyneside this season.
Jordan
Pickford tipped Anthony Elanga's shot away for a corner after just
20 seconds, but failed to prevent Malick Thiaw heading home his
first Toon goal before a minute had elapsed - eclipsing Phil Foden's
59 second strike earlier in the day as
quickest PL goal anywhere this season.
Scoring first at West Ham, Brentford and Marseille
had done the Magpies no favours, but this time the crucial
second goal was theirs. Pickford denied Harvey Barnes after just
eight minutes, but it was from his hamfistedness that Lewis Miley
prospered, as his shot was hilariously flapped into the net.
Lewis Hall's shot clipped the Toffees crossbar, before the
green-clad Magpies ended the half with an improable three goal lead, thanks to a delightful chip by Nick Woltemade that had echoes of
Kieron Dyer's finish at Everton's former Goodison Park home back in 2000.
A decent number of home followers declined to take their seats for
the second half and some those who did return were streaming for the
exits before the hour, when Thiaw thumped home an imperious header
from an artful Hall cross to make it 4-0.
Further goals could have followed for the visitors, but the hosts
did belatedly pull one back - a VAR call of handball denying Thierno Barry
a first Toffees goal, before Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall netted from close in to
deprive Aaron Ramsdale a clean sheet on his first Premier League start
of the season.
Ramsdale was one of six changes to the starting line-up beaten in
Marseille on Tuesday and the most obvious one given
Nick Pope's display, but the presence of John Ruddy as the only
goalkeeper on the bench lent credence to the claims that Pope was
missing due to a groin injury. Eddie Howe claimed that happened in
training; we'd just presumed it was during his ill-judged sortie
upfield in France....
Conceding failed to dampen the enthusiasm of
an away support very merry across the Mersey, while the United boss
received a welcome birthday present from his players in the form of
a controlled and coherent display underscored the strength of his
squad - and the positive effects of rotation.
Marrying attacking edge with defensive solidity, United were aided
by a clueless home display from a side lacking a genuine centre
forward. There again, West Ham were nowt flash and cantered to
victory against us. It's tempting to point at the goalkeeping change
as pivotal, but in terms of pure distribution it was simply a
novelty to see balls consistently reach their intended targets.
Also key to the success apart from the blistering start were full back
duo Hall and Tino Livramento, whose presence narrowed the gap
between defence and midfield and brought another dimension to our
play that befuddled Everton - at one point they were the two
Newcastle players furthest forward.
There were pleasing and tangible contributions from Elanga and Lewis
Miley that underscored the old adage about playing into form by
getting proper pitch time rather than bench cameos. It will be
interesting to see when that policy extends to Ramsey, whose only PL
start to date was in August.
Joelinton gave one of his performances when he wasn't a danger to
his own side and although he didn't warrant inclusion at the expense
of Barnes, one smart decision from Howe was to omit Anthony Gordon
against his old team - and avoid feeding the scousers and wind-ups.
Gordon did appear late on with his present side 4-1 up - as he had
at Goodison almost exactly two years before.
Sitting eleventh in the table at the close of play, Newcastle
dropped two places after Manchester United and
Liverpool both won on Sunday. It seems more significant though to
have finally
achieved successive Premier League wins in
a season-long search for consistency - and gained some timely
respite from that travel sickness bug before going to the dark
place.
