32 mins
Under no real pressure, Malick Thiaw's slip gifted the ball
to Dominic Calvert-Lewin on the edge of the Newcastle box. He immediately
played the ball into the path of Brenden Aaranson, who shot home without
further ado as Lewis Miley and Fabian Schar converged on him.
0-1

36 mins Miley's right wing cross was headed out of his own area by
Pascal Struijk and headed back in by Bruno Guimaraes. Reaching Anthony
Gordon, his first touch looped the ball over Ethan Ampadu and his second
then isolated Struijk as he pushed the ball sideways towards the centre of
the box.
Harvey Barnes
shaped to shoot but hesitated until Nick Woltemade neatly laid the ball off,
tucking it home with a left-footed shot from 12 yards.
1-1

45+5 mins A diagonal ball towards the right hand side of the
Newcastle box was headed back towards the centre by a visiting player,
Malick Thiaw getting ahead of Calvert-Lewin to clear - but penalised for
doing so with his hand.
Calvert-Lewin bundled home the spot kick, going down the middle as Pope
dived to his right. 1-2
Half time: Newcastle 1 Leeds 2

54 mins Over-hitting his initial ball out to
Miley on the Newcastle right, Bruno Guimaraes did rather better when his
colleague kept the ball in play and funnelled it back to him. The home
captain took advantage of a yard of space to curl a tempting cross with the
outside of his right foot.
Joelinton rose on the penalty spot ahead of Joe Rodon and directed a header
beyond the reach of fellow countryman Lucas Perri and into the far corner of
the net.
2-2

79 mins
Yoane Wissa's attempt at passing back
to Jacob Ramsey in the centre circle failed as the former Villa midfielder
lost his footing. Ilia Gruev assumed possession and sprayed a pass out to
his right to the lurking
Brenden Aaranson. He shimmied and shot low past Pope from 12
yards out.
2-3

90+1 mins
Lewis Hall sent over a
corner from the Newcastle right that was half-cleared to Jacob Murphy in the
Leeds box.
He returned the ball to Hall, whose cross struck the hand of Aaranson as he
jumped to block.
His protests about standing outside the box when the incident occurred
were undermined by replays confirming the ball to hand contact was on the
other side of the white line. Bruno Guimaraes converted the
penalty after a stuttering run up that tempted Perri to mistakenly dive to
his right.
As the scorer retreated to his own half, Sven Botman reminded him that 10
minutes remained.
3-3

90+12 mins Another Hall
flag kick from the right was fisted clear by Perri and ended up going out o
play on the opposite flank.
Tino Livramento took a
quick throw towards the left corner of the Leeds area to Bruno Guimaraes,
who took a touch before looping a cross into the centre of the box. That
reached Botman, who had Jaka Bijol in close attendance, but diverted the
ball to Harvey Barnes.
In his own words, what followed was "a swivel, hit and hope and celebrate",
with a right-footed shot from almost level with the penalty spot that
brought the house down.
4-3

Full time: Newcastle 4 Leeds 3

Eddie Howe said:
"It's difficult to sum it up in
a few words.
"It was one of those classic
games here where I don't think we were at our best, but we showed
great character, we kept fighting and always believed we've got
goals in us.
"It turned our way at the end,
which is a rare thing for us. We haven't done it enough this season
especially, we've gone the other way and lost points from late in
the game so it's great to go the other way today.
"It wasn't a perfect
performance, there's stuff to reflect and improve, but the mentality
is the key thing in everything and if you're losing, you need that
'never say die' spirit, especially with the attacking players we've
got.
"We were a bit flat at start of
game which was surprising. We are disappointed with that aspect of
our game but maybe conceding helped us in this game because it gave
us something to chase and played with a bit more freedom.
"I'm delighted for Harvey
(Barnes) to score the winning goal, a great moment for him. He
has done it before for us but he deserves it.
"Great to see the
substitutes come on and make a difference as well. That's so
pleasing for the squad strength and winning late gives everyone a
lift.
"No Premier League game, as the table would show you, is easy this
year and the win is a valuable result.
"Coming from behind, we haven't done that this season yet so that's
a great thing to do. We have been on the receiving end a couple of
times this season and it really hurt, so this is the better way to
script it."
On Fabian Schar:
"He’s in hospital, I believe, at the moment, he’s got an ankle
problem. It doesn’t look good for him, we hope it’s not as serious
as it looks. We send him our love.
"He’s such an important
player, he’s been incredible for us.
"Since we’ve come to the football club, he’s almost been an
ever-present. He’s always put his body on the line for the team.
Unfortunately, it looks like he’s picked up a bad injury.”
On Kevin Keegan:
"We want to produce a similar
team (to his Entertainers). We want everyone to be desperate
to come and watch the team and stick with the team right until the
end because you never know what's around the corner.
"You never know how a game can
end. With Kevin's team, that was certainly the case.
"We want that to be the
same with us and we want supporters to love the team in the same
way."
Pre-game comments about KK:
"Really sad news.
Kevin is an absolute icon of this football club, not just as a
player but as a manager. An inspirational figure. I've been lucky enough to meet
him a few times. He's been so kind and generous with his time and
his words for me.
"We wish him well, the whole city is behind him and with him every
step of the way."
Harvey Barnes added:
"It was weird, it
was very up and down. I don't think we were by any means at our
best, but it's about where the game finishes and the feeling we have
now. You don't care about the performance, it's more the result.
"I don't really remember it (the winner). It's a
swivel, hit and hope and celebrate. It's a bit of blur. When you're in the
box, it's instinct to get whatever contact you can and there's that many
bodies, anything can happen.
"Everyone knows what the atmosphere is like up here but
when a last-minute winner goes in like that, it's special."
Daniel Farke
said:
"First of all, congratulations to Newcastle, many
compliments I would say for both sides - I think it was a top advertisement
for the Premier League.
"Top performances after a really tight schedule. It was a great game, also
with mistakes, otherwise there wouldn't be so many goals. This is what both
teams have to accept in terms of criticism.
"The lads showed an inspired performance, one of our best away performances
here at Newcastle. It's such a tough place to go and to show such a brave
performance to go three times in the lead.
"I'm pretty proud of my lads and it's heart-breaking that we concede a
penalty in the 91st minute in this manner. This is never ever a penalty for
me… Then the late heartbreak in the 12th minute of added time.
"Both sides have
played this game in the manner this game should be played – very passionate,
very emotional, very attacking-minded.
"I have to say that I am
more than proud of the performance of my lads, and also the desire and
belief and the bravery that we showed here today against a side that was
playing on Champions League level.
"Then of course late
heartbreak for my lads in the 90th or 91st minute, a handball given and then
the last ten minutes was a bit like a basketball game. Of course if it is
not a draw, one team was on the unlucky side....both teams were out of
control and just went for it.”
On the penalty decision:
"It was given. We have to accept it. It's more or less like there was a
lot of pressure on the referees when the whole home crowd gets excited and
is asking for a penalty. I was not happy that he gave (it) without
any doubt and without thinking about it."

At 101 minutes, 48 seconds, Harvey Barnes scored the
latest PL goal ever recorded*. That beats Cole Palmer,
whose effort in Chelsea's 4-3 home win over Manchester United in
April 2024 was 100 minutes, 41 seconds.
* Officially, the Opta PL stats begin in 2006/07.
Late PL goals for NUFC:
2025/26 Harvey Barnes v Leeds (h) 90+12
2020/21 Callum Wilson v Spurs (a) 90+7
2022/23 Bruno Guimaraes v Leicester (h) 90+5
2021/22 Joe Willock v Liverpool (a) 90+5
2019/20 Florian Lejeune v Everton (a) 90+5
2013/14 Yohan Cabaye v West Ham (a) 90+5
(Before 2006/07, the latest NUFC PL goal time we recorded
is 90+4, earlier than the above listing).
Newcastle last scored twice during second half added time in the PL
back in January 2020, when Florian Lejeune struck in 90+4 and 90+5
minutes away to Everton.
Barnes claims the record for the latest PL goal to be
scored at Gallowgate from Liverpool's Rio Ngumoha in August 2025 -
that one timed at 99 minutes, 44 seconds.
Newcastle came from behind to win in the Premier League for the
first time since a 4-3 success at home to Nottingham Forest in
February 2024. That was also the most recent PL fixture before
tonight that they won 4-3.
The Magpies had never previously come from behind three times
and gone on to win in the PL. The closest they came was
equalising three times at Manchester City to draw 3-3 in 1995/96.
Harvey Barnes increased his seasonal goal total to nine in all
competitions, five in the PL and four in the CL. That's level with his best season as a Magpie, also hitting
nine in 2024/25.
Barnes moves on 19 PL goals for Newcastle, one ahead of
Fabian Schar and one behind Anthony Gordon.
Joelinton's second PL goal of the season takes him on to five
in league and cup competitions, still some way short of his most
prolific campaign of 2022/23, when he got eight.
His PL tally increases to 24, one ahead of Kieron Dyer and
two short of Michael Owen.
Bruno Guimaraes netted for a third successive PL game - the
first time that he's done that for the club. His seasonal total of
eight is his best return as a Magpie, exceeding the seven that he
managed during the 2023/24 campaign.
The Newcastle captain now has 29 PL goals to his name,
putting him level with Demba Ba and Gary Speed. Bruno's next target
is the 33 that Ayoze Perez contributed.
Bruno's first PL penalty makes him the 35th Magpie to have
taken one in that competition and the 30th to score one (the
five who missed their sole PL kick for the club were Andy Cole, Loic
Remy, Kenedy, Joselu and Joe Willock).
Our number 39 had previously lined up from 12 yards in both
Carabao Cup and FA Cup penalty shootouts, successful in three of his
four attempts:
2022/23 CC Crystal Palace (h) missed - sent into orbit.
2023/24 CC Chelsea (a) scored
2023/24 FA Blackburn Rovers (a) scored
2024/25 CC Nottingham Forest (a) scored
Newcastle's 295th PL home win was the seventh by 4-3. HT score/manager in brackets:
2025/26 Leeds United (1-2) (Howe)
2024/25 Nottingham Forest (4-1) (Howe)
2023/24 West Ham (1-2) (Howe)
2004/05 Manchester City (0-0) (Souness)
2001/02 Manchester United (2-1) (Robson)
1996/97 Leicester City (1-0) (Dalglish)
1996/97 Aston Villa (3-1) (Keegan)
Eight PL home games without defeat is Newcastle's best run of form at SJP since the
last eight games of the 2023/24 campaign. That
extended to 10 games when the 2024/25 season started.
Leeds @ SJP - last 20 visits:
2025/26 won 4-3 Barnes 2, Joelinton,
Guimaraes(pen) PL
2022/23 drew

A game that began with Newcastle fans voicing their support for club
legend Kevin Keegan following news of his cancer diagnosis ended in a
victory reminiscent of KK's Entertainers-era side.
The Magpies celebrated their third successive Premier League victory at
full time, but only actually held the advantage for a matter of seconds in a
game that spanned 112 minutes. They were the moments that matter
though: we all
love leads, as the song goes....
The Whites arrived unbeaten in seven league outings and beaten on just one of their last five visits to Gallowgate.
And that run looked like continuing as a busy Leeds side settled into a
better passing rhythm in contrast to the hosts, who provided little threat
with Nick Woltemade up top.
Malick Thiaw's error in losing
possession to Dominic Calvert-Lewin outside his own penalty area was
promptly punished when Brenden Aaranson clinically beat Nick Pope, but that lead lasted
barely five minutes before Woltemade's touch in the box set up Harvey Barnes to fire home
the equaliser.
Thiaw was again then the unwanted centre of attention in first half added time,
harshly ruled to have handled in the box although replays showed the
he was shoved.
Calvert-Lewin continued his scoring run here to put Daniel Farke's
side deservedly ahead once again - just reward for their enterprise.
Again though, that lead was to be short-lived. Almost from the restart
Joelinton was cautioned for a thinly-veiled dive in the Leeds box in pursuit
of a penalty and restrained by several colleagues, but channelled his anger
more productively after the break.
A fitting night for the current owner of the number 7 shirt
to score saw Joelinton glance home an excellent header from a Bruno Guimaraes centre
- the chance created after Lewis Miley athletically retrieved an
over-hit pass from his captain out by the right corner flag.
That began a period of home pressure that saw Lewis Hall narrowly
fail to connect when Barnes pinged a low cross in from the right and
an almighty scramble in the six yard box following a corner before
referee Michael Salisbury whistled for some obscure infringement.
The ding-dong nature of an increasingly engrossing contest also saw Leeds
rattle the goal frame, Pope marooned as James Justin met a left wing cross
but couldn't direct a header under the bar.
Newcastle's momentum would be
crucially altered by an ankle injury to Fabian Schar that saw him stretchered off and left Botman partnered by Miley - who had begun the evening at full back
once again before moving into
midfield.
That re-jigged back line was almost immediately pierced however, as
Aaronson made his way into the box from the Leeds right and rolled a
low effort inside Pope's far post.
A home crowd harbouring an increasing sense of injustice against
the officials were celebrating in the final seconds of
normal time, as the referee adjudged that Aaranson had blocked Lewis Hall's
right wing cross illegally with his hand - a verdict that felt like
levelling up to us....
With previous penalty takers Gordon, Woltemade and Schar all off the field,
the captain stepped up and converted via a stuttering run-up with unpleasant
echoes of his shootout effort at the same end against Crystal Palace that
ended up in L7. Not tonight though, this was hard and true.
The comeback was then improbably completed in the 12th minute of
added time as Bruno's ball into the box was knocked down by Botman
into the path of Barnes.
He turning brilliantly before finding the bottom
corner of the Leazes End net for the latest goal ever scored during a
Premier League game.
Some inevitably chaotic celebrations towards the North West
corner saw Barnes embark on an elongated knee slide, Lewis Hall opt
for a belly flop and Joelinton seize a steward's stool before
brandished at nobody in particular in a vaguely threatening manner. The
ringmaster Bruno wasn't involved though, having dropped to the ground after
celebrating with the Leazes front row.
Jacob Murphy uprooted the corner flag and carried
it back on to the field before presenting it to Barnes. It was
then helpfully retrieved and replanted by Yoane Wissa, who then worked the crowd
with a succession of fist pumps.
When the dust settles and hearts stop racing, the amount of second half time
added on (indicated 10, played 15) can be attributed to a variety of
factors, principally the goals and substitutions plus the stretchering off
of Schar, who was carried across the field rather than round it, despite
going to ground halfway along the East Stand touchline. That incident alone
ate up over five minutes.
Calvert-Lewin's elongated departure when substituted was also a factor,
deliberately taking a longer route with several glad-handing interruptions.
That prompted a comment of "we got off the beach at Dunkirk quicker"
from one malcontent and saw the clock tick on. A yellow card would surely
have resulted for his antics, had he not already earned one during the game.
Lastly, the referee himself also caused several delays, pausing to adjust
faulty equipment.
Victory saw Newcastle rise to a seasonal high sixth place in the
table, extending their unbeaten home league and cup run to 12
games (eight in the Premier League). Three points also took United above the mackems for the first time this season
after their 0-3 loss at Brentford, during which Enzo Le Fee's attempt
at a Panenka penalty was embarrassingly saved at 0-1.
Statistics fail to convey the epic nature of what went on here
though, as Newcastle found a way to win, rendering individual and collective
shortcomings irrelevant. And from an object of ridicule, it's only right to
note that we're now experiencing unprecedented levels of potency from our
corners.
Skill, emotion, controversy and an absolute cliffhanger of an ending. Books
were written about less.

away win at Leeds in April 1996.
