"I thought the
performance in the first-half was a bit sketchy - but it was a team
that we made a fair few changes in so it always takes a bit of time
to gel and players to get up to speed that probably haven’t played
as many minutes as the other boys.
Also, we try not to dwell on what happened on Monday, but that was
such a high for the players and it’s back to the reality of Whitley
Park on a Friday night so that might have been a challenge.
"I actually thought after we spoke at half-time, tweaked a couple of
little bits, I thought second-half we were good.”
I think it’s almost the other way around with the challenge. I guess
as a player, the stadium games, St James, Bradford City, York City,
even the National League Cup, they’re games that get you going a bit
and you think can I prove myself at that level.
"The challenge is then making sure you do it professionally in a
game like tonight, which they did. So I think it’s easier to get
yourself up for games and making sure you maintain that
professionalism when you come to play on a Friday night here.”
On Jayden Kouossu:
"That’s the challenge for Jayden because he’s got such a high ceiling. It
was really good play between Kyle (Fitzgerald) and Johnny
(Emerson), a really good cross and I suppose the biggest compliment I can
give him is that it was headed like a seasoned pro.
"It was such power, great timing, brilliant celebration but he will be
really pleased with that. He needs to recognise that can be part of his game
as well and not be restricted by sitting behind the ball.
"It’ll take time, he’s only just 16 and a little bit and I think he would be
that box-to-box midfielder he can be.”

Following a 4-1 home win over Luton Town in their opening group
stage tie,
Robbie Stockdale's side continued their 100% record in this
competition with four ties to play.

It's four successive victories now for Newcastle U21s, who followed
up Monday's PL2 conquest of the mackems at St. James' Park with a
lower profile PL Cup win on Friday.
The hosts came close to opening the scoring in the 22nd minute when
Park Seung-soo pulled the ball back from the left side to Vakhtang
Salia.
However his shot cannoned off Bastian Smith and the visiting
custodian turned a 36th minute effort from Kyle Fitzgerald round the
post to keep the Magpies at bay.
Newcastle took the lead six minutes after the break when Johnny
Emerson's speculative cross from the right took
a slight deflection and dropped in the far side of the net.
Emerson then centred from the right in the 64th minute for
Jayden Kouossu to bury a header from inside the six yard box - a
first reserve goal for the 16 year-old midfielder.
Further goals from Alfie Seldon and Vakhtang Salia could have
followed, Smith denying Emerson in the closing stages after
substitute Matheos Ferreira had set him away.
