update
The
Premier League have published guidance regarding the rescheduling of
games depending on the outcome of this weekend's FA Cup
Quarter-final ties.
Should Arsenal
win at Southampton on Saturday night, then Newcastle's scheduled PL
visit to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday April 25th (5.30pm) would
be postponed in order to accommodate FA Cup Semi-finals during that
weekend.
The PL now say that
"fixtures will be rescheduled to take place between Tuesday 21st and
Thursday 23rd April".
As Arsenal face Manchester City in the PL on Sunday 19th April,
any rearrangement of our game would presumably see it on Wednesday
or Thursday rather than Tuesday.
Premier League:
Forest (a) on TV
The
latest Premier League TV selections were revealed on Wednesday, with
Newcastle's visit to the City Ground now confirmed as a 2pm KO on
Sunday May 10th, live on Sky.
That game was liable to move from the Saturday to Sunday were Forest
to reach the Europa League
Semi-finals, but rather than wait for the outcome of the
Quarter-finals, the PL have made the alteration anyway.
The remainder of United's season
now looks like this:
Sun 12.04.2026 Crystal Palace (a) 2pm Sky
Sat 18.04.2026 Bournemouth (h) 3pm
Sat 25.04.2026 Arsenal (a) 5.30pm Sky*
* Subject to alteration, see above.
Sat 02.05.2026 Brighton & Hove Albion (h) 3pm
Sun 10.05.2026 Nottingham Forest (a) 2pm Sky
Sun 17.05.2026 West Ham (h) 3pm ^
^ To be rescheduled if West Ham
beat Leeds United in their FA Cup QF on Sun 05.04.2026 and then win
a SF on or around Sat 25.04.2026,
TV schedule for this weekend due Wed
08.04.2026.
Sun 24.05.2026 Fulham (a) 4pm
(all games kick off at the same time on final day)
Update:
Opportunity Knox
Newcastle United have agreed a sponsorship deal with South African
sports drink company KNOX, including training ground naming
rights and training kit sleeve sponsorship.
From July 1st, the three year deal worth £18m in total sees United's
Darsley Park training ground renamed The KNOX.
Meanwhile the club's teams - men, women and academy - will wear
training kit that includes KNOX sleeve branding.
Efforts to secure a main (front of shirt) sponsor for training kit
remain ongoing, while news of a shirt sponsor to replace SELA when
that deal expires this summer is also awaited.
Update:
Loan lads
Matt Targett (Middlesbrough):
Friday brought a 78 minute shift for the defender at home to Millwall
in the Championship. Leaving the action at 1-1, Matt saw Boro
concede again to lose 1-2 and lessen their hopes of retaining an
automatic promotion place.
Harrison Ashby/Joe White (Bradford City):
A 1-0 home win over Northampton Town on Friday boosted the Bantams'
bid to secure a League One playoff spot. Joe wasn't selected while
Harrison languished on the bench.
Tyler Jones (Dunston UTS):

Update:
Derby abuse:
arrest made
From The Northern Echo, Wednesday:
A man has been arrested
following reports of racist abuse during March's Tyne-Wear derby.
The incident took place during
the match at St James’ Park on March 22.
A 45-year-old man from the
Gateshead area was arrested on Tuesday. He was detained on suspicion
of a racially-aggravated public order offence and has since been
released on bail.
Sunderland defender Lutsharel
Geertruida reported the abuse during the second half of the match,
prompting referee Anthony Taylor to pause the game.
Detective Inspector Phil Guard
of Northumbria Police said: "Racial abuse has absolutely no place in
football or in our communities, and we will not tolerate this type
of behaviour.
"Following proactive policing
enquiries and close partnership working with both clubs and their
supporters, a suspect has been arrested.
"They have since been bailed
with robust conditions while the investigation continues.
"We will continue to work with
clubs, supporters and partner agencies to tackle any form of
criminality at football matches."
Newcastle United released a
statement condemning the reported abuse, stating: "Our stance is
clear – we do not tolerate discrimination of any form.
"We will work with the
authorities to fully investigate and will ensure any individuals are
identified and held accountable."
Sunderland also offered their
support to the player and condemned the incident.
A spokesman said: "We stand with
Lutsharel, who has our complete backing, and we commend him for
displaying bravery and leadership by reporting this incident to the
match officials.

Update:
Record
revenues reported
NUFC's financial results for the year to June 2025 were published on
Tuesday morning
online here
A pre-tax profit was achieved by
selling St.James' Park to a PIF subsidiary company, although the
land that the stadium sits on remains under the ownership of city
Freemen.
The land on which the STACK development stands adjacent to St.James'
Park was also sold in a similar fashion.
Club notes accompanying the results claim those changes are part of
the process leading towards the decision on whether to rebuild the
stadium or move, and that meeting PSR was not a primary motivation
for the sale.
That is disputed by some media outlets, who assert that failure to
generate funds by some means would have left United vulnerable to
PSR breach and possible sanctions.
Update:
Hopkinson on
Howe etc.
Speaking to the media, club CEO
David Hopkinson said:
On Eddie Howe:
"I don't have a stance on his
future. What I can tell you is that the derby loss hurt.
"We take it seriously. There's
nothing within us that thinks, 'Well, it's just three points and on
we go'. It has resonated.
"I spent a couple of hours in a
one-on-one lunch recently with Eddie and we talked through a
multitude of things, including that.
"Eddie is our manager. I expect
to have a great run to the end of the season here and we will talk
about the future when it's time.
"Right now, we're focused on
this season's competition."
Responding to questions about whether Howe's future would be
decided before next season:
"I would not frame it that way.
We are not looking to make a change at the moment. We are not having
those conversations. We are still in the midst of our season.
"We are focused on the seven matches we have remaining and not
distracting ourselves with speculation about what we may or may not
do in the summer.
"All of us have only got so much bandwidth and we are focused on
finishing this season strongly.”
Barely six weeks ago, Hopkinson said of Howe that:
"I’m really happy with the job he’s doing."
"(His job until the end of the season is)
to maximise the potential of the squad he’s got.
"We haven’t given him a set
target - achieve this, achieve that. He’s a deeply experienced,
total professional, he’s going to go as high as we possibly can.
"He applies the same level of
intention and attention to every match we play. Look, we haven’t
given him a clear target saying ‘deliver this’, he knows what the
ambition is and he knows what the target is.
"Eddie Howe is so important to this club and what he’s done here,
lifting the club’s first trophy in 70 years with the Carabao Cup
last year, is remarkable.
"What he’s doing on the day-to-day, working incredibly hard, has the
support of the club and the ownership."
On transfers:
"I wasn’t here for the (Alexander) Isak situation, but, to
me, Isak was a good sale.
"We haven't got an overall strategy with regard to players out, necessarily.
"We think through what players
might or might not want to do this summer. But if an Isak-like
scenario presents itself again, any player under contract is going
to leave on our terms and we're going to maximise the opportunity
that might represent for the club.
"Going forward, our strategy is
to buy well and sell well. Buying well does not necessarily mean
spending the most money. It means working in the marketplace for the
players that generate the most value for this club rather than the
fee paid for them.
"So there are a multitude of things we need to employ, including developing our own, looking for
opportunities in the marketplace and making sure we are maximising
our opportunity within the available price we can produce."
On possible big-name departures:
"We are not ready to answer that.
"We can make a box office signing but we might not be able to do
that without selling somebody. What I do know is that players that
leave this club will need to do so on our terms.
"Our competitors are formidable and they’ve already got a head start
on us, but all they’ve got is a head start and we’ve got a
tremendous opportunity for growth right in front of us.
"We’ve got to catch these guys.”
PS: questions regarding training ground and stadium plans
weren't answered in any meaningful fashion.

Unlikely lads:
Brace back at
it
Former Newcastle midfielder Paul Bracewell has made a return
to senior football, joining National League Woking as assistant to
their newly-unveiled boss Jermain Defoe.
The 63 year-old has been involved with youth coaching since calling
time on first team coaching at the mackems during 2017 - coinciding
with Defoe's time playing there.
PS: In the ranks of released academy players on trial with other
clubs, Newcastle's Matty Taylor spent time at both Sheffield
Wednesday and Coventry City in recent days.
We're checking claimed sightings of fellow Magpies Jude Cogdon,
Kayden Lucas and Ezra Tika-Lemba elsewhere.
Update:
Alex Cropley
RIP

The death of
former Magpie Alex Cropley has been confirmed. He was 75.
Arriving on Tyneside on loan from Aston Villa in January 1980, the
midfielder struggled to influence Newcastle's faltering bid to
gain promotion from the Second Division.
Struggling for fitness after several injuries, Cropley
made his Magpies debut in a 0-1 loss at Wrexham, keeping his place
for a 0-0 home draw against Birmingham City and a 1-3 reverse away
to Shrewsbury Town before exiting.
Winning two Scotland caps despite his Aldershot birthplace, Alex began his
career at Hibernian in 1969 before joining Arsenal five years later, where
he suffered two broken legs.
Sold to Aston Villa in 1976 he was part of their League Cup winning
side the following year.
After his brief loan spell at SJP, Cropley returned to Villa Park before
a year in Canada with Toronto Blizzard. A brief period with
Portsmouth was then truncated by injury.
Returning to Edinburgh, Cropley ran a pub in the Portobello area of the city
before becoming a taxi driver.
A dementia diagnosis sadly came in
December 2020.

availability of Bruno Guimaraes and Fabian Schar is tbc.
Joelinton goes into this game on nine PL bookings - if he makes it
ten against Palace he'll land a two game ban, but that doesn't
happen then the threat will be lifted.

Young Toon in
trophy triumph
Sunday
saw Newcastle's U15 side victorious in the Premier League
International Tournament - an eight team, two day event staged
at the Cobham home of Chelsea.
Qualifying with a 100% record after wins against Everton, Liverpool
and Burnley during which they netted 18 times, the young Magpies
began with a 2-0 win over Manchester United, Muawiya Ghanem and Jack
Skleton on target.
Charlie Robinson's treble and one from Ghanem then accounted for
Crystal Palace, who were defeated 4-0.
With qualification for Sunday's knockout stages virtually assured,
Saturday then concluded with a much-changed line-up losing 0-1 to
Juventus.
Following a 0-0 draw with hosts Chelsea on Sunday, the black and
whites then progressed on penalties, with goalkeeper Lucas Flack
making the vital save.
That set up a final against Manchester City; a first half header
from Ghanem sending the silverware to Tyneside.
PS: That's a second win over City U15s inside a month, after a
6-2 success in a Premier League Floodlit Cup tie.

ST holders have 24
hours to apply, 24 hours to determine success, 48 hours to
buy.
Success is based on the loyalty point total calculated from applications
received. Any applications from ST holders with less points are entered into a
ballot, which will have taken place before tickets go on sale.
Regardless of the loyalty point level a game sells out at, to purchase a
ticket you must have applied in the initial 24 hour window.
The initial purchase window is divided into two sections determined by a loyalty
point division that alters for each game - those successful applicants above
that point division usually get two hours head start.
NB: emails from NUFC confirming success may arrive after the purchase
window opens - if you think you qualify due to your points total, log
on and complete your purchase.
Tickets not bought by successful applicants are offered to applicants with a
reduced loyalty points total. Only those within the new loyalty point total are
then eligible to buy - even if you had more, your purchase window has already
closed.

Born Or Died:
1925 Death of Archie Turner, 47.
(1903-04)

1940 Death of Jimmy Hay, 59.
(1911-19)

1954 George Hope born, Haltwhistle.
(1971-75)

Striker who began his playing career with Haydon Bridge United,
finding his way to SJP via an unsuccessful trial at Workington.
His first team debut for the Magpies came in a 0-1 reverse at Leicester in
November 1973, but his first senior appearance at SJP the following week was
more memorable.
Standing in for Malcolm Macdonald, George filled the number nine shirt to good
effect, scoring the winner in a 3-2 home victory over Manchester United.
A handful of further first team outings followed, but after failing to make a
single appearance in the 1974/75 season, moved on to join Charlton Athletic
where he replaced former Magpie Arthur Horsfield.
Joining York City in 1976 (initially on loan), Hope ended his career in Belgium
with Wezel Sport before returning to England and settling in the York area.
Half time guest at SJP on New Years Day 2007 against Manchester United, George
worked at a car dealership on Humberside.
1989 Vurnon Anita born Willemstad, Curacao. (2012-17)

Born in the Dutch Antilles (a group of islands in the
Caribbean), Vurnon moved to Holland with his family as a youngster and began
his association with Ajax in 1999.
First representing Holland at U17 level in 2004, the midfielder's senior club
debut for Ajax came two years later - 2010 bringing senior recognition against
Mexico.
Beginning the 2012/13 season for Ajax against AZ Alkmaar, he made his Magpies
bow from the bench less than a week later, as Spurs were beaten 2-1 on Tyneside.
Joining on a five year deal for a claimed £6.7m, his first goal arrived in
November 2012 - a volley at Belgians Brugge in the Europa League.
Anita's debut Premier League strike followed when he bagged the final goal from
point-blank range in an 4-1 away success at Hull during March 2014.
Appearing in both central midfield and as a stand-in left back, he reached a
century of Premier League games for United in a 2-3 loss at Norwich in April
2016, just before his 27th birthday.
A fine goal against Manchester City earned new boss Rafa Benitez a vital point
but it wasn't enough to prevent relegation.
Into the final season of his contract, Anita appeared in the Championship at
right back and as a defensive midfielder.
However, he failed to win a new deal - reportedly due to high wage demands
following relegation - and left.
Linked with a return to Holland, instead the free agent surfaced at
Championship side Leeds United, debuted in a 2-3 defeat at Bolton Wanderers in
August 2017.
However the arrival of Marco Bielsa ahead of the 2018/19 campaign saw Vurnon
omitted from the senior squad and he returned to Holland on a season-long loan
to Eredivisie side Willem II.
Anita reached agreement to terminate his contract and left Elland Road in
September 2019, joining Bulgarians CSKA Sofia on a short-term deal the
following February.
However the suspension of the Bulgarian season soon after saw him play just
three games before securing his release.
Following the restarting of games back in Holland that June, Anita signed for
RKC Waalwijk before joining Saudi Arabian First Division club Al-Orobah in June
2023.
January 2025 then brought an unforeseen move to Dutch second tier side
Volendam on a non-contract basis before joining Vierde Divisie side Ajax
Amateurs.
An unlikely international return came for him in March 2021, gaining permission
to represent his birth country Curacao and making his debut in a World Cup
qualifier against Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
1991 William Remy born Courbevoie, France. (2011)

Defender who was with Racing Club Lens in his native France
when appearing for United reserves as a trialist during August 2011.
Remy - no relation to Magpies loan striker Loic - was joined in a pre-season
training ground game against Gateshead by fellow Lens player Darnel Situ,
although neither were retained and left soon after.
The pair had come to Tyneside after former Lens colleague Mehdi Abeid made a
similar trip some months earlier and succeeded in winning a permanent deal with
United.
A French youth international, Remy joined Dijon in 2012, where he played
alongside former Magpie Romain Amalfitano.
And three years later he made the step up to top flight football in France
after running down his contract, joining Montpellier as a free agent and
becoming a regular starter.
After falling from favour there however, he joined Polish side Legia Warsaw in
2018, moving on to Belgians Virton in 2022.
William returned to Poland in February 2024 with second tier Zaglebie Sosnowiec.
They finished bottom and were releagted and he left in June 2025.
